Lufthansa Group exercises options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10s

Lufthansa Group has exercised options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, lifting its firm Boeing 737 MAX commitment to 60 jets. The supervisory board approved the move on 17 September, with deliveries of the new aircraft due to start in the early 2030s as the group begins replacing older Airbus A320-family aircraft across its airlines.

The aircraft form part of a 2023 Boeing order for 40 737 MAX 8s that included 60 purchase options for additional MAX-family jets. Lufthansa Group has now converted the first 20 of those options into firm orders, while the remaining options stay available for future fleet decisions.

The group values the 20 MAX 10s at about $3.4 billion at list prices. The order fits into Lufthansa Group’s wider fleet modernisation programme and long-term capacity planning, giving the company more flexibility as it reshapes its short- and medium-haul operation over the next decade.
