Edinburgh Airport has appointed Mark Johnston, currently chief operating officer at London Gatwick, as its next chief executive. He will take up the role on 1 October, succeeding Gordon Dewar after 14 years at the helm of Scotland’s busiest airport. Johnston returns to his home city after previous posts at Glasgow Airport, bringing senior aviation management experience from two of the UK’s major airports.
The leadership change comes as Edinburgh Airport continues a period of investment and growth under owners Vinci Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners. Johnston’s background across Glasgow and Gatwick is expected to support the airport’s operational and commercial priorities as passenger traffic remains central to its expansion plans.
The move also opens a question over Gatwick’s next operations leader, with a successor for Johnston yet to be named. Dewar’s departure closes one of the longest executive tenures in UK regional aviation, at a hub that has become increasingly important to Scotland’s connectivity and inbound travel market.
