IndiGo confirms talks with Embraer over E2 regional jets

IndiGo is in talks with Embraer and ATR over regional aircraft, with Willie Walsh confirming in London that the airline is considering Embraer’s E2 family for domestic feeder services. The potential deal could complement or replace IndiGo’s ATR 72-600 turboprop fleet and fill the gap between those aircraft and its Airbus A320-family jets.

The discussions were disclosed at the 2026 World Airline Awards in London, after earlier reports had pointed to negotiations. IndiGo has 44 ATR 72-600 aircraft in service, and no model has been named publicly. No order has been finalised.

A move to Embraer would give the Brazilian manufacturer a major E2 customer in India and could alter competition in the country’s regional aircraft market. IndiGo, the country’s largest carrier, has been expanding its fleet strategy as it weighs how best to serve shorter domestic routes alongside its mainline network.
