Asky Airlines is preparing to enter long-haul service with Boeing 787 Dreamliners, targeting an initial launch in late 2027 or early 2028. The Lomé-based carrier plans to start with two 787s before adding a third aircraft later, with the jets expected to come through shareholder and strategic partner Ethiopian Airlines.
The widebody plan has been delayed by high costs and limited aircraft availability, but it now forms part of a broader growth strategy that includes a $100 million maintenance centre at Lomé’s airport. Developed with Ethiopian Airlines, the facility is intended to support Asky’s fleet and other carriers in West and Central Africa. Full operation of the maintenance project is targeted for the end of 2028.
The long-haul network under consideration includes destinations in Europe and beyond, with the 787 chosen to support the carrier’s next phase of expansion. The maintenance venture is designed to strengthen local technical capability as Asky moves towards operating widebody aircraft on intercontinental routes.
