Airbus will invest about £150 million to turn its former A380 wing production facility in Broughton, Wales, into a dedicated A321 production line. The Flintshire site will build wings for the A321neo, A321LR and A321XLR, with the first wing already in production and the conversion due for completion by the end of 2026.
The upgraded facility will include six wing production jigs, an equipping line and a paint shop. Airbus is expanding the site to support the wider A320-family ramp-up, with long-term output targeted at 75 aircraft per month. The Broughton investment is also expected to create around 480 jobs in 2026, including about 250 roles in the refurbished factory.
The project forms part of Airbus’s broader UK industrial expansion and follows recent investment in Belfast to increase wing manufacturing and composite capabilities for the A220 programme. Broughton remains a key centre for Airbus wing production as demand for the A321 family continues to dominate the narrowbody backlog.
