Swissport to enter Colombia with majority stake in GHI

Swissport will enter Colombia through a binding agreement to acquire a majority stake in Giraldo Hermanos International SAS, giving the ground handling group a local platform in Bogotá and Medellín. The transaction, announced on 21 September 2026, is still subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, while GHI will remain the operational base until completion.

The deal extends Swissport’s Latin American network into one of the region’s largest aviation markets and gives it access to a key South American growth opportunity. Swissport already operates at 85 airports across 15 countries in Latin America, and the Colombia move fits its strategy of expanding in large, fast-growing aviation markets.

Warwick Brady, Swissport’s chief executive, described Colombia as one of the group’s most important regional markets. The agreement is expected to broaden competition and service capacity in ground handling and air cargo support across the country’s airport network, though the purchase price and exact size of the stake were not disclosed.
