Houthi attack disrupts operations at Riyadh airport

Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s capital disrupted operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, after flames and thick smoke were seen near a fuel depot close to the terminal area. Saudi-led coalition forces intercepted a ballistic missile fired at the city, and no casualties were reported.

The Houthis claimed strikes on “sensitive” sites in Riyadh and on Saudi oil facilities in Yanbu, while Saudi authorities issued overnight air-raid alerts after a hostile aerial threat. Later in the day, the all-clear was given as the immediate danger passed.

Flight-tracking services and local reporting pointed to major delays and temporary operational problems at the airport, with smoke visible above the airfield and surrounding buildings. The fire was reported near a fuel storage area bearing the Aramco logo rather than at terminal infrastructure, and normal traffic began to resume later after the disruption. The incident marked one of the most serious Houthi attacks to reach the Saudi capital and directly affect the kingdom’s main airport hub.
