Bremen Airport is exploring private investors and possible changes to its shareholder structure as it tries to ease financial pressure and restore Lufthansa flights to Frankfurt for the summer 2027 schedule. Airport management is also examining further cost cuts while negotiating with Lufthansa, the Senate Chancellery, the Chamber of Commerce and local business interests over a return of the route that once carried up to five daily frequencies.
The loss of Frankfurt service has hit the airport’s finances hard, with annual revenue estimated to have fallen by two to three million euro after the suspension. A decision on the route is expected in October, and any reinstated operation would likely be smaller than the earlier schedule. Lufthansa’s winter timetable for Bremen still includes Munich service, but not Frankfurt, leaving the long-haul hub link absent for now.
Summer 2027 bookings for Frankfurt–Bremen flights have already reappeared in Lufthansa’s distribution systems, although a final go-ahead remains outstanding. That keeps the prospect of a return alive, but Bremen’s management is still working through both commercial and ownership options as it seeks a more stable business model.
