Lufthansa Group exercises options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10s

Lufthansa Group has approved the exercise of options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, raising its firm Boeing 737 MAX order volume to 60 jets. The aircraft form part of the group’s short- and medium-haul fleet renewal programme, with deliveries due to begin in the early 2030s.

The new order is Lufthansa Group’s first commitment to the MAX 10 variant and comes from purchase rights attached to a 2023 deal for 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. That earlier agreement included 60 options for additional MAX-family jets, giving the group scope to expand its narrowbody fleet over time.

The aircraft are intended to replace older Airbus A320-family jets across the group, supporting long-term capacity planning and fleet modernisation. Lufthansa Group has said it expects to take delivery of more than 250 new aircraft by 2035 as part of that wider renewal programme. The order carries a list value of about $3.4 billion, although airline deals are typically completed at a discount.
