Teesside International Airport and Sary-Arka Airport in Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop new air cargo links across the UK, Central Asia and China. The agreement focuses on scheduled and charter freighter operations between Teesside and Karaganda, while also creating a framework for cooperation on cargo handling, airport development and e-commerce logistics.
The two airports plan to share expertise in airport, cargo and real estate development, with the partnership designed to support freight growth and wider trade links between the Tees Valley, Kazakhstan and Asian markets. Sary-Arka is being positioned as a cargo and logistics hub for China, Central Asia and Europe, while Teesside continues to build its role as a UK e-commerce and air cargo centre.
Both sides will work with airlines, charter operators, freight forwarders and logistics companies to identify new services. Potential direct cargo flights between Teesside and Karaganda are under consideration, subject to commercial interest and operational viability.
