Raytheon Australia has declared NASAMS combat-ready for the Australian Army, completing a multi-year effort to bring the ground-based air defence system into full service in Canberra. The system is now positioned to protect service members and critical infrastructure, with the Australian configuration tailored to local operating conditions and backed by Australian-designed radar technology.
NASAMS is designed to detect, track and respond to airborne threats including aircraft, drones and cruise missiles. Raytheon Australia said Army personnel have been trained to operate the system, which is now fully integrated and ready for use. The milestone follows the delivery and integration of a modern short-range air defence capability for Australia, but the release did not provide new contract value, unit numbers or procurement details.
