Georgia to comply with US sanctions on Iranian airlines

Georgia will align with expanded US sanctions targeting Iranian airlines that still fly between Iran and Georgia, with the Civil Aviation Agency in Tbilisi moving to follow the international sanctions regime. The policy response comes after Washington widened pressure on Iran’s aviation sector and lists carriers such as Qeshm Air and Varesh Air among those operating services to Tbilisi.

The Georgian position creates fresh compliance pressure for airlines on the Iran-Georgia market, though no immediate suspension of specific flights was confirmed. The agency did not give a timeline for any operational changes, and it did not identify every carrier that could be affected.

The US measures are part of a broader campaign against Iran’s aviation network, extending sanctions to dozens of targets and raising the risk for counterparties outside Iran. Georgia has previously used US Treasury sanctions lists as a screening tool for foreign carriers, and its latest response suggests those lists will again guide access to the country’s air market.
