Iberia Maintenance has secured unrestricted approval from Spain’s State Aviation Safety Agency to carry out heavy maintenance on its entire Airbus A350 fleet, removing earlier limits on the scope of work. The Madrid-based unit can now perform comprehensive checks across the widebody type, a step that broadens its maintenance capability for Iberia’s own aircraft and opens the door to more external A350 work.
The approval follows a two-year project that began in late 2024 and involved more than 150 workstreams spanning training, engineering, production, materials, equipment, infrastructure, documentation, organisation, quality and IT systems. Enrique Robledo, Iberia Maintenance director, described the move as a strategic development for the business. The decision also strengthens Iberia Maintenance’s position in the European A350 maintenance market at a time when airlines and MRO providers are expanding widebody support capacity.
