Vietravel Airlines has reached an agreement with Airbus for 50 new aircraft, covering 20 A220s and 30 A321-family jets, including A321neo and A321XLR variants. The deal, disclosed in Paris during a state visit by Vietnam’s top leader, will give the carrier Vietnam’s first A220s and A321XLRs, with deliveries set to begin in 2029.
The purchase supports Vietravel Airlines’ medium- and long-term expansion plans as it seeks to grow beyond Vietnam and Southeast Asia into South Asia, Central Asia and selected Middle Eastern markets. The A220 is expected to provide a smaller type for market development, while the A321XLR will add longer-range capability for thinner international routes.
Vietravel Airlines currently operates a small fleet of used Airbus aircraft, making the order a major scale-up for the carrier. The agreement also fits a broader wave of aviation cooperation highlighted during the Vietnam-France state visit, with the signing witnessed by senior officials from both countries at the Élysée Palace.
