Vietnam Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for five A350-900 widebody jets, with deliveries scheduled for 2033 and 2034. The provisional deal was confirmed on Friday and the value was not disclosed, as the carrier moves to secure long-haul capacity well beyond the end of the decade.
The airline linked the agreement to its long-term fleet plan, which identifies the acquisition of 30 widebody aircraft beyond 2030 as a strategic priority. The new A350-900s would support future international growth and replace ageing capacity as demand develops across Vietnam Airlines’ network.
Vietnamese state media separately reported that the two sides will continue assessing and completing the investment and procurement procedures before any firm purchase stage. The signing came amid broader aviation and industrial engagement involving Vietnam and France, with the carrier positioning the order as part of its post-2030 fleet development programme.
