A Wizz Air Airbus A321 flying from Paris to Sofia diverted to Stuttgart on Wednesday evening after a disruptive passenger forced the crew to intervene. The aircraft landed safely at around 20:50 local time, and the service continued to Sofia later that night, shortly after 23:00. Police detained a 19-year-old man after boarding the aircraft at Stuttgart airport.
The man was heavily intoxicated and caused a disturbance during the flight, prompting crew members and several passengers to restrain him with cable ties before landing. Police reported an alcohol level of about 1.5 per mille. No passengers or crew were injured. Two companions travelling with him also left the aircraft, with police describing them as loud but otherwise unproblematic.
The diversion briefly disrupted a scheduled European route and required an operational response at Stuttgart, where police used a fire truck stair to access the aircraft. The incident underlines how onboard misconduct can escalate quickly into a diversion and law-enforcement intervention, even on a short-haul service.
