Two Belgian pilots rescued after WT-9 Dynamic ditches in Black Sea off Türkiye

Turkish Coast Guard teams rescued two Belgian pilots after an Aerospool WT-9 Dynamic ditched in the Black Sea off northeastern Türkiye on Wednesday following a reported engine failure. The two-seat ultralight, flying from Batumi, Georgia, to Ordu-Giresun Airport, went down about 6.4 kilometres off Pazar district in Rize province after an attempted diversion to Rize-Artvin Airport could not be completed.

The occupants, identified as Vlasselaer Werner, 55, and Christian Peiffer, 69, were taken to hospital for checks and were reported to be conscious and in good condition, with no life-threatening injuries. Coast Guard vessels, boats and a diving team were deployed to the scene and recovered the aircraft from the sea surface as authorities opened an investigation into the cause of the engine failure.
