Kenya Airways is again searching for leadership after acting Group Managing Director and CEO George Kamal stepped down, with company secretary and director of legal services and regulatory compliance Habil Waswani set to take over as acting CEO from 15 September. Kamal will remain through a 30-day transition period before leaving on 30 September, while the carrier keeps its turnaround programme and day-to-day operations on track during the search for a permanent chief.
The change comes less than a year after Kamal assumed the role following another departure in December 2025. The latest handover is internal, rather than an external recruitment move, and business coverage indicates a competitive process for a substantive CEO is already under way. That leaves Waswani to provide interim continuity as Kenya Airways works through continuing financial pressure and seeks stability at the top of the organisation.
