Syrian Airlines has taken delivery of the first two Airbus A320-family aircraft in an eight-jet fleet renewal programme at Damascus International Airport. The aircraft, registered as YK-AKI and YK-AKJ, each seat 156 passengers and form part of a wider effort to rebuild and modernise the carrier’s operations under commitments linked to the airport development project.
The two jets were inspected, maintained and technically assessed before handover, with further aircraft due to arrive in stages. Syrian civil aviation authorities are completing preparations for entry into service, including crew, maintenance and ground-handling arrangements, as the airline works to restore capacity after years of constrained operations.
The new aircraft are expected to support more destinations and higher frequencies once deployed, although no timetable has been given for the remaining six deliveries. Route assignments for the two A320s have also not been disclosed.
