Bombardier to acquire Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Canadian aerostructures plant

Bombardier will acquire the assets of MHI Canada Aerospace in Mississauga, Ontario, bringing about 750 employees into its operation as it moves more aerostructure production in-house. The deal covers a key supplier to Bombardier’s Global 5500 and 6500 and Challenger 3500 business-jet programmes and is due to close later this year, subject to regulatory approval and customary conditions.

The Canadian site has supplied wing assemblies, fuselage sections and flight control installations for Bombardier aircraft for years. By taking control of the facility, Bombardier aims to strengthen supply-chain resilience and improve manufacturing autonomy for its business-jet lines.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will provide transitional support after closing to help maintain continuity at the Mississauga plant. Financial terms were not disclosed.
