China Eastern selects LEAP-1A engines for 101 A320neo-family aircraft

China Eastern Airlines has selected 202 CFM International LEAP-1A engines to power 101 newly ordered Airbus A320neo-family aircraft. The agreement includes spare engines and long-term service support. The selection was disclosed during the China International Import Expo in Shanghai; the aircraft addition had been announced previously, making the engine choice the latest development in the fleet plan.

A separate agreement covers 14 spare engines across the LEAP-1A, LEAP-1C and CFM56-7B models. The terms disclosed do not specify the value of either agreement or the duration of the service support.

The LEAP-1A selection establishes the engine type for the 101-aircraft group and couples the deliveries with ongoing support. CFM International is a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines. China Eastern had not immediately made a public announcement about the agreements.
