WHILL launches autonomous wheelchair service at Singapore Changi Airport

WHILL has launched its autonomous wheelchair service at Singapore Changi Airport, with up to 18 units being rolled out progressively in transit areas of Terminals 2 and 3. The deployment moves PRM passengers from arrival gates to the special service lounge and helps connecting travellers reach their next gate, while airport ground operations staff oversee remote dispatch.

The airport trialed a fleet of 10 wheelchairs from March 2025 through 2026 before expanding to the larger rollout. WHILL said the service is intended to support staff rather than replace them, allowing teams to concentrate on passengers who need more hands-on assistance.

The company described the Changi project as its largest airport deployment to date. It also said the autonomous service has surpassed one million rides globally and is now operating across 26 airports and facilities. Prior safety testing covered speed controls, obstacle detection and navigation performance, and dispatch is tied to flight schedules to match demand with passenger flow.
