VINCI Airports unveils £500m Edinburgh plan

Edinburgh Airport has launched a £500 million, five-year investment programme to expand and modernise its terminal and campus, with work already under way on the first phase. The plan, backed by owners VINCI Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners, is the biggest capital investment in the airport’s history and is aimed at adding capacity, improving passenger flow and supporting new short-haul and long-haul routes.

The first phase centres on the South East Pier expansion, due to open in summer 2027, alongside a larger check-in hall, an expanded departure lounge, new gates and additional aircraft stands. The terminal footprint will increase by 60%, while retail and food-and-beverage space, international arrivals facilities and baggage handling areas will also be upgraded.

Further changes across the wider campus include a new access road and more electric-vehicle infrastructure. First Minister John Swinney visited the site during the announcement and described the investment as a major boost for Scotland’s economy. Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said the programme is designed to build future capacity and improve the passenger experience as demand grows.
