Vietravel Airlines lines up 50 Airbus jets in major fleet expansion

Vietravel Airlines has agreed to take 50 Airbus aircraft as it prepares a major fleet expansion from a current base of five jets. The package covers 20 A220s and 30 A321-family aircraft, with deliveries due to begin in 2029, in a deal disclosed in Paris during the Vietnam-France summit at the Élysée Palace.

The agreement puts one of Vietnam’s youngest carriers on a much larger growth path, with the A321 portion expected to include A321neo and A321XLR variants. The aircraft mix points to a strategy that combines domestic reach with longer international routes, while also giving the airline more operational flexibility as it broadens its network.

The signing took place in the presence of Vietnamese leader To Lam and French President Emmanuel Macron, underlining the aviation component of wider bilateral cooperation. Some coverage describes the transaction as a preliminary commitment or letter of intent, so the wording remains cautious pending a definitive purchase order from the airline or Airbus.
