United Airlines diverted a Boeing 777 flying from Milan Malpensa to Newark to Bangor, Maine, after an unruly passenger incident on 8 September. The flight landed safely at Bangor International Airport, where law enforcement removed the passenger before the aircraft continued on to Newark.
Court filings identify the passenger as Kristina Kedysheva and allege she became aggressive after being denied more alcohol, ignored crew instructions to return to her seat and resisted efforts to calm the situation. Reporting also says the captain activated the fasten-seatbelt sign during the disruption. In the struggle that followed, she allegedly bit and kicked the same flight attendant.
The incident forced an unscheduled stop on a long-haul transatlantic service and drew federal attention after the crew reported interference on board. United confirmed only that the aircraft diverted to address an unruly passenger and that the customer was removed in Bangor.
