Turkish Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with CFM International covering more than 300 LEAP-1B engines, including spares, for 100 firm Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and 50 aircraft under options. The Istanbul agreement also includes long-term support for the airline group’s wider LEAP fleet and assistance in establishing an engine maintenance facility in Türkiye.
The services arrangement will cover more than 600 LEAP-1B engines operated by Turkish Airlines and subsidiary AJet. This includes engines already ordered or delivered, spare engines, units installed on leased aircraft and engines associated with potential future options.
The MoU was signed by Turkish Airlines Chairman Murat Şeker, Turkish Technic Chief Executive Mikail Akbulut and Safran Chief Executive Olivier Andriès. CFM International is jointly owned by GE Aerospace and Safran.
Material support from CFM will help Turkish Technic develop a LEAP maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Türkiye. Turkish Airlines and AJet currently operate 79 737 MAX aircraft powered by LEAP-1B engines, alongside 96 737 Next Generation aircraft equipped with CFM56-7B engines.
The agreement remains preliminary, and no financial terms, delivery schedule or facility opening date were disclosed.
