Tom Scheele takes over as managing director of Lufthansa Aviation Training

Tom Scheele became managing director of Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) on 1 November, succeeding Matthias Spohr, who has moved to Eurowings. Scheele, 46, was most recently Lufthansa Group’s head of Digital Flight Operations and remains a Lufthansa Airlines captain on Airbus A320-family aircraft. LAT is headquartered at Munich Airport and serves airlines and aviation personnel through a global training network.

Scheele joined Lufthansa after training at the Bremen commercial pilot school in 2004. His previous management roles include leading Operations Support at Lufthansa Airlines. He has also studied computer science and business administration and managed an IT company.

LAT operates at 12 locations worldwide, employs about 800 people and serves more than 250 airlines. Its nearly 200 training devices include flight simulators and equipment for cabin-crew training. The company did not provide details of the appointment process or changes to its strategy. Scheele cited innovation and customer needs as priorities as aviation changes, with the company’s team contributing to LAT’s future.
