Eirtech wins EASA approval for A320 data-link upgrade

Eirtech Aviation Services has received EASA Supplemental Type Certificate approval for a data-link installation on Airbus A320-family aircraft, using Universal Avionics’ UniLink UL-801 system. The approval covers ATN B1 Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and airline operational messaging. Based at Shannon Airport in Ireland, Eirtech completed the modification and certification work; the approval does not identify an airline customer or confirm that any aircraft has been modified.

STC 10091062 covers specified A318, A319, A320 and A321 models and permits the installation of CPDLC and ACARS. The EASA certificate, dated 7 October 2026, makes installation conditional on the aircraft having a VHF-3 antenna fitted or provisioned. Eirtech selected the UL-801 for its A320 upgrade programme in 2024.

The retrofit option enables flight crews and air traffic controllers to exchange routine messages by data link rather than voice. The system is intended to support flight planning and en-route operations, reduce pilot workload and limit potential communication errors. CPDLC capability also supports access to European airspace requirements. No launch customer, completed installation, order volume, pricing or deployment schedule has been disclosed.
