TAROM receives first Boeing 737-8 as fleet renewal advances

TAROM has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8, introducing the 737 MAX to the Romanian flag carrier’s fleet after a handover in Seattle and a ferry flight to Bucharest. The aircraft, registered YR-BGO and named Mircea Lucescu, is the first of two 737-8s leased from CDB Aviation and will support routes linking Bucharest with major European capitals.

Boeing described the delivery as a milestone in TAROM’s fleet modernisation and long-term growth strategy, and as the first 737 MAX in Romania. TAROM’s single-aisle fleet currently includes four Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft, so the new jet replaces ageing capacity rather than opening a new route segment.

A second 737-8 is expected later in the autumn, extending the carrier’s narrowbody renewal programme. The arrival of the MAX family gives TAROM a more fuel-efficient platform for its short- and medium-haul network as it continues to refresh its fleet through leased aircraft.
