A small aircraft crashed onto the A2 motorway northeast of Magdeburg on Friday afternoon, killing both occupants. The accident occurred shortly before 15:00 between Burg and the Krähenberge rest area in Saxony-Anhalt. The aircraft caught fire and was largely destroyed. Police, firefighters and other emergency responders attended, and the motorway was closed in the direction of Hannover. No other vehicles were involved, based on information available to police at the time.
Police had not established the cause of the crash or the precise sequence of events. The closure allowed emergency services to respond at the scene; no further details on the disruption or when the road would reopen were available.
