Singapore Airlines unveils S$2 billion long-haul cabin, ending fold-forward Business Class seat

Singapore Airlines has unveiled new long-haul cabins representing an investment of more than S$2 billion across First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. The products are due to enter service progressively from the second half of 2027 on 41 retrofitted Airbus A350-900 and A350-900ULR aircraft, as well as the airline’s Boeing 777-9 fleet. The redesign replaces the fold-forward Business Class seat used to convert the existing product into a bed.

The 777-9 is set to receive all four cabin classes. A350 retrofits will include new Business Class seats, while the A350-900ULR aircraft will gain First Class cabins for the first time. Singapore Airlines has not specified the first route for the new interiors or provided an aircraft-by-aircraft installation schedule.

The new First Class suite will have sliding doors and centre seats configurable for dining together or as a double bed. First and Business Class will also feature smart controls that can retain passengers’ preferred settings. The airline describes the redesigned Business Class as offering improved ergonomics, greater privacy and more adaptable personal space.

Development drew on research involving more than 5,000 travellers, employees and industry experts. Design partners included PriestmanGoode, Designworks, Factorydesign, Collins Aerospace and RECARO Aircraft Seating.
