BKA seeks third suspect in Leipzig/Halle Airport drone case

Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and Federal Prosecutor’s Office are seeking information about another person potentially linked to an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Investigators have identified two suspects and released AI-generated images of the person they are seeking. The individual is believed to have travelled by e-bike near the airport between 31 July and 4 August 2026; the images are not a photograph or confirmed likeness.

The search focuses on a route between Rabutz and Beuditz and an industrial area between Radefeld and Lützschena. Investigators have located a suspected drone launch site near the route and other suspected items close to the industrial area. They are asking anyone who saw the person in those locations during the period to come forward.

On the evening of 4 August, an airport employee found a drone fitted with an explosive device near Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation, which concerns suspected attempted explosives offences and interference with air traffic. MDR reported that investigators later found another drone and explosives at the airport. The identity and possible role of the person sought remain unknown; the appeal does not indicate an arrest or resolution.
