Saudia has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR, becoming the first operator of the long‑range narrowbody type in the Middle East and Africa. The aircraft is part of the Saudi flag carrier’s previously announced order for the extended-range variant of the A321neo family.
According to the company, the A321XLR offers a range of up to 8,700 kilometers and flight durations of up to nine hours, enabling nonstop services from Saudi Arabia to a wider range of destinations in Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia. The aircraft is intended to give the airline greater flexibility in matching capacity to demand on long, thin routes that do not require widebody equipment.
The A321XLR is expected to be deployed on medium- and long-haul routes from Saudia’s main hubs, supporting the kingdom’s broader aviation growth plans and its strategy to increase international connectivity. The delivery also advances Airbus’s presence in the region’s single-aisle long‑range segment, as more carriers look to operate point‑to‑point services with smaller-gauge aircraft.
