Madrid is set for a strong September in air travel demand, with Amadeus forecasting a 5% year-on-year rise in bookings to the city between 9 September and 4 October. The uplift is being driven by the Spanish Grand Prix and the first nights of Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran run, while short-stay travel and hotel demand are also climbing in the Spanish capital.
Domestic bookings to Madrid for 18 September to 4 October are expected to rise 35% year on year, covering the first nine nights of the concerts. International bookings are up 5% over the same period. For the Grand Prix window from 9 to 13 September, the strongest inbound growth comes from the UK at 46%, followed by South Korea at 45%, France at 32% and Uruguay at 31%.
Short stays of five nights or fewer are forecast to increase 10% year on year, suggesting a stronger concentration of event-led travel. Amadeus Travel Intelligence data used for the forecast showed hotel occupancy at 48% for the period spanning early to late September, pointing to further upside if demand materialises as expected.
