LOT parent plans dedicated cargo airline under new growth strategy

Polska Grupa Lotnicza (PGL), the parent group of LOT Polish Airlines, plans to establish a dedicated all-cargo airline under its 2026–2032 growth strategy, with a perspective to 2035. Provisionally referred to as PGL Cargo, the carrier would operate independently of LOT and use dedicated freighters acquired or leased by PGL, creating Poland’s first airline focused exclusively on cargo operations.

LOT would continue carrying belly cargo in the holds of its passenger aircraft, while the proposed airline would serve the dedicated-freighter market rather than use LOT’s network or fleet. PGL’s strategy identifies all-cargo operations as a way to diversify group revenue, improve returns and reduce Poland’s reliance on foreign cargo operators.

The concept also includes a dual-use role. Freighters would carry commercial shipments in normal conditions but could transport strategic supplies, equipment or humanitarian aid during emergencies. PGL also plans cargo-terminal and related infrastructure development through subsidiaries including LS Airport Services, while LOTAMS could provide maintenance capabilities for widebody passenger and cargo aircraft at Rzeszów-Jasionka.

The project remains at the strategy stage. PGL has not disclosed a launch date, aircraft types, fleet size, routes, operating base, financing structure or regulatory timetable.
