Lockheed Martin has received the first PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement components from GM Defense, with the initial housing parts delivered on 28 August, just 22 days after the companies signed a production contract on 6 August. The Dallas-based defence company said the components were produced by GM Defense for the PAC-3 MSE interceptor missile as part of an effort to expand output for the air and missile defence programme.
The delivery brings General Motors’ defence arm into the Patriot missile supply chain at a time when Lockheed Martin is seeking to raise PAC-3 MSE production capacity. The parts involved are mission-critical and typically take months or years to manufacture, underscoring the speed of the new production arrangement. Lockheed has been working with GM Defense since June on a broader partnership aimed at bringing commercial automotive manufacturing capability into missile production.
Neither company disclosed the value or quantity of the order. The latest delivery follows Lockheed Martin’s wider push to expand manufacturing capacity across key missile programmes, including PAC-3 MSE, THAAD and PrSM.
