Jin Air adds first A321-200 ahead of South Korean LCC merger

Jin Air has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321-200, a transfer from Asiana Airlines that entered the fleet on 11 September and is due to begin commercial service on 1 October. The aircraft is the carrier’s first Airbus narrowbody and will undergo airworthiness checks and about 50 hours of test flying before full deployment.

The addition lifts Jin Air’s fleet to 33 aircraft this month, with more Airbus and Boeing types due later in the year, including A321neo and 737-8 jets. The airline has also set up mutual maintenance support with Air Busan as it prepares for a more mixed fleet structure under the planned low-cost carrier consolidation.

The move comes ahead of the expected merger of Jin Air, Air Busan and Air Seoul into an integrated LCC under the Korean Air-Asiana restructuring, with the combined operation targeted to launch in March 2027.
