Iran Air weighs Kuala Lumpur return after long suspension

Iran Air is exploring a return to Kuala Lumpur after a long suspension, following talks between chief executive Taher Abdolhay and Malaysia’s ambassador to Iran, Dato’ Wan Yusri. The discussions centred on the operational and commercial requirements for restoring the Tehran–Kuala Lumpur link, but no launch date has been set.

The move comes as Iran Air continues to rebuild parts of its international network. Iran Air has previously served several East Asian destinations, and a restart of the Malaysia route would restore a former long-haul link that has been absent for years.

Details remain limited. No aircraft type, timetable or booking start has been confirmed, and the route’s return will depend on further coordination between the two sides.
