Iran Air continues Turkey flights as Mahan Air faces suspension

Iran Air is continuing flights to Turkey after Turkish authorities moved to suspend Mahan Air services from 21 September until further notice. The restriction targets the Iranian carrier’s Tehran-Ankara and Tehran-Istanbul routes, while other airlines remain free to operate between the two countries.

The order follows new US sanctions on Iran’s aviation sector and appears to add pressure on Mahan Air’s international network. Reports in Iranian and regional media indicate the last flights on the affected Turkey routes are scheduled for 20 September. The measure is carrier-specific rather than a wider closure of Iran-Turkey air traffic, limiting the immediate disruption to Mahan Air while leaving the broader market intact.

Iran Air’s continued service underscores that the Turkey corridor remains open for other operators, preserving a key passenger and business link between the two markets. The suspension of Mahan Air flights, however, removes one of the most prominent Iranian carriers from a commercially important route pair at a time of heightened sanctions pressure.
