Honda Aircraft is preparing the HondaJet Echelon prototype for its first flight while continuing manufacturing and systems-integration work in Greensboro, North Carolina. The light-jet programme has been delayed, with first flight now targeted for 2028, but production preparations are advancing for an aircraft designed to offer midsize-jet range and comfort with light-jet pricing and operating economics.
Honda Aircraft completed the first wing structure for an Echelon test aircraft on 15 September, and five wing structures are now at various stages of final assembly. More than 70% of the parts required for the first assembly are on hand, while mainline final assembly is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
The revised schedule reflects supplier-related adjustments and ongoing development work. Structural testing has progressed, and cockpit-system integration continues at Honda Aircraft’s integrated test facility as the company prepares the test aircraft for flight testing.
The Echelon is a larger and longer-range programme than Honda Aircraft’s existing HondaJet line. Type certification and first delivery are currently planned for 2031, extending the company’s business-jet portfolio into a segment between conventional light jets and midsize aircraft.
