German Air Force to deploy Eurofighters to Weeze for exercise

Several German Air Force Eurofighters from Nörvenich are due to arrive at Weeze Airport on Monday, 2 November, for a deployment exercise lasting until 6 November. The crews will practise operating from a civilian airport and coordinating with civilian staff, including air traffic control and technical teams responsible for tasks such as refuelling. Scheduled passenger services are expected to continue during the exercise, alongside additional military flights.

The exercise will involve the Air Force’s Tactical Air Wing 31 “Boelcke”. Its crews will conduct their normal training flight programme from Weeze, with more take-offs and landings expected during the week. The Air Force does not anticipate disruption to holiday flights, although the forecast has not been independently verified. Residents near the airport may hear increased noise from the military aircraft.

The training is intended to test procedures for operating combat aircraft away from military air bases and working with civilian airport personnel. Similar deployment exercises have taken place at airports including Hamburg, Bremen, Münster/Osnabrück and Nuremberg. Weeze, on the Lower Rhine, was used by the Royal Air Force until 1999 and now handles scheduled civilian traffic; it recorded about 2.25 million passengers in 2025.
