Germany’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing whether drone parts found near the Bundeswehr airbase at Wunstorf are connected to the earlier drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Investigators in Lower Saxony found the debris earlier in the week near Hannover, while the Karlsruhe-based office is checking for technical or operational similarities in the two cases.
The Wunstorf matter is not being treated as a standalone criminal case by federal prosecutors, with regional authorities handling it as a hazard-prevention issue. Security sources have pointed to similarities in construction between the two drones, including a possible 3D-printed component and other non-standard parts.
The comparison with Leipzig/Halle has heightened concern around transport and defence infrastructure, given the airport’s earlier drone investigation and the military significance of the Wunstorf airbase. Officials have not confirmed a criminal link, a suspect or any attribution, and the current review remains limited to whether the two incidents may be related.
