GE Aerospace will invest US$225 million to modernise its research centre in Niskayuna, New York, upgrading infrastructure and laboratory equipment at the long-running technology hub. About two-thirds of the budget will go to site and facility improvements, while the remainder will fund advanced research technology as the company expands work on artificial intelligence, autonomy, robotics, advanced materials, manufacturing, hypersonic propulsion and hybrid-electric flight.
The project at the GE Aerospace Research Center is expected to create 75 full-time jobs over five years, spanning research, engineering and skilled trade roles, alongside temporary construction work. Site improvements are due to start immediately, with research operations continuing during the build-out with minimal disruption.
New York State will provide US$8.4 million in tax credits through Empire State Development, while the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority is contributing US$5.3 million in local incentives. The investment is intended to keep major military and commercial jet engine research anchored in New York and to support GE Aerospace’s wider collaboration with academic and federal partners, including projects tied to the Department of Energy and the Department of War.
