From Airbus A330 maintenance to parts production: How far Russia’s Iran plans went

A leaked Russian government roadmap outlines plans to deepen aviation cooperation with Iran through 2026, including possible production in Iran of individual parts and assemblies for Russian aircraft. The document links Rosaviatsiya, Iranian companies and Aeroflot to a wider effort to localise maintenance and supply chains, with Tehran already used for Airbus A330 work and three Iranian firms later approved for maintenance roles.

The plan was reportedly approved in September 2024 and set milestones for a production agreement by 31 March 2026 and prototype output by 31 December 2026. Russian authorities were tasked with identifying which aircraft parts could be repaired or manufactured in Iran, selecting capable Iranian producers and certifying sites through the aviation regulator before concluding a localisation deal.

The development fits Russia’s broader response to sanctions pressure, which has pushed Moscow to seek alternative suppliers and repair capacity outside its own industrial base. Rosaviatsiya’s approval of the three Iranian companies in February 2025 followed maintenance on an Aeroflot Airbus A330 in Tehran, signalling a relationship that had already moved beyond routine one-off servicing. Fox News could not independently verify whether the more ambitious manufacturing plan was actually implemented.
