Florida Man Convicted of Smuggling $900,000 in Aircraft Parts to Russia

Alexander Mamonov, a Florida resident and Russian national, was convicted in the Southern District of Florida on all 12 counts after a jury found he helped illegally export more than $900,000 in aircraft parts from the United States to Russia’s state-owned airline Aeroflot. The case centred on aviation components routed through deceptive paperwork, with prosecutors saying the goods were disguised as shipments for other destinations before reaching Russia.

Mamonov was identified in court coverage as a former Aeroflot employee. Ignat Vakorin, named as a co-defendant in the case, remains at large. Authorities said the pair used false end-user information and other misleading documents to persuade suppliers that the parts were bound for places such as China and the United Arab Emirates, while the shipments were ultimately directed to Aeroflot.

The verdict comes amid continued US enforcement of export controls targeting aviation and other sensitive goods destined for sanctioned Russian entities after the 2022 restrictions. The counts included export-control violations, smuggling, false export statements and conspiracy to launder money. Sentencing was reported for 20 November 2026.
