Extremadura approves first aerodrome opening with AESA support

Extremadura has authorised traffic operations at the Don Benito aerodrome in Badajoz, with technical support from Spain’s State Aviation Safety Agency, AESA. The restricted-use facility is cleared for sport aviation and daytime visual flight, and becomes the first opening-to-traffic case handled by the regional government under its powers over such aerodromes.

AESA backed the regional administration during the processing of the file, answered procedural questions, inspected the site and issued a favourable resolution confirming compliance with operational safety requirements. The aerodrome has an 800-metre runway and a width of 15 metres.

The authorisation advances the facility towards service and expands local aviation infrastructure for sport and VFR activity in Extremadura. It also underscores the regional government’s role in restricted-use aerodrome oversight, alongside coordination with the national safety authority.
