EASA and the European Commission confirmed that sustainable aviation fuel supply at EU airports exceeded the first mandatory ReFuelEU Aviation target in 2025, with SAF reaching 2.8% of total aviation fuel supplied. Aviation fuel suppliers reported 39.3 million tonnes of fuel delivered across EU airports, including 1.1 million tonnes of SAF, against the 2% minimum that applied in the regulation’s first year.
The result gives the bloc its first statutory compliance snapshot under ReFuelEU Aviation, which requires rising SAF use in the years ahead. EASA’s annual technical report showed supply scaling sharply from 193,000 tonnes in 2024 to 1.1 million tonnes in 2025, while the Commission highlighted the data as evidence that the mandate is already shaping market uptake across the European Union.
Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas welcomed the outcome, and the underlying reporting covered airports across the EU. Trade coverage of the report indicated that most SAF was produced within the European Union and that compliance among obligated suppliers was strong, offering an early benchmark ahead of steeper targets later in the decade.
