Etihad recruits A320 pilots as German captain profile highlights rapid career path

Etihad is recruiting Airbus A320 captains and first officers for its Abu Dhabi base as fleet growth drives demand for European Airbus pilots. The airline plans to double its pilot workforce to about 4,000 by 2030 and is staging recruitment roadshows in Germany in October, while a German captain featured in the campaign shows how quickly careers can progress inside the carrier.

The profile centres on a pilot who joined Etihad in 2013 from Air Berlin, began as a senior first officer on the A330 and became an A320 family captain in 2017. He now works as chief flight instructor and instructor-examiner, reflecting the wider range of roles available beyond line flying.

Etihad has a single crew base in Abu Dhabi, requiring pilots who join to relocate to the UAE. With the A321LR and broader fleet expansion underway, the airline is targeting pilots with A320-family experience for roadshows in Munich on 13 October and Frankfurt on 15 October. Internal progression can move pilots to captain within about three years, followed by potential transitions to widebody aircraft one to two years later.
