Edinburgh Airport has set out a £500 million, five-year expansion programme, the biggest capital investment in its history. The plan will increase terminal capacity, add new gates and aircraft stands, and upgrade passenger facilities and airport infrastructure as the Scottish hub prepares for further traffic growth.
First Minister John Swinney visited the South East Pier expansion site as the first phase of work moved ahead, with the initial section due to open in summer 2027. The programme includes an expanded check-in hall, a larger departure lounge, improved retail and food-and-beverage space, and upgraded international arrivals and baggage facilities.
The terminal footprint will rise by 60%, while wider campus works will add electric vehicle infrastructure and a new access road. Edinburgh Airport, owned by VINCI Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners, expects the investment to support new short-haul and long-haul routes and strengthen its position as Scotland’s busiest international gateway.
