Doncaster Sheffield Airport consultation draws more than 1,000 responses

Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s planned reopening has moved into a fresh public consultation stage, with Fly Doncaster welcoming more than 1,000 responses on proposed airspace changes needed to restore passenger and cargo operations. The airport’s operator is holding the engagement process around the Airport Change Proposal as it works towards reopening the South Yorkshire site, while two further in-person sessions are scheduled later this month in Thorne and Doncaster city centre.

Three consultation events have already taken place, generating 1,175 responses by the end of August. The process focuses on reinstating controlled airspace and the arrival and departure routes required for the airport to return to service safely. Fly Doncaster has also made documents available at sites across the city, including the Danum Gallery and Civic Offices, to widen participation.

The proposal has been lodged with the Civil Aviation Authority, which is expected to reach a decision on the airspace next May. Doncaster Sheffield Airport closed in 2022 and is working towards a phased return, with the consultation representing one of the key regulatory steps before flights can resume.
